3 litre Z3 pretending to be Italian exotica. Two previous E89 Z4s.
Just trying to ascertain whether my aspirations with the car are real, or just fantasy.
It is a 3 litre M54 Z3. It drives like a Z3. It has all the characteristics of a Z3. But it doesn't look anything like a Z3.

It's a yes or no poll. Price is not relevant. I won't be offended so say whatever you want.

It is a beautiful car and I would be quite happy to own it but I wouldn't pay the kind of price that would be asked for it.
Therein lies the problem! That is why it was a yes or no.
Unfortunately everything has it's price and yes if I were to sell (which I am not at present) the price would need to be considerable.

Absolutely! The interior finish is superb.

Stunning car, the exterior is beautiful and the interior is to die for, I did consider upgrading my interior to match, but the boss says no!

Interesting that the interior seems to be more popular than the exterior.

As you say

“It is a 3 litre M54 Z3. It drives like a Z3. It has all the characteristics of a Z3. But it doesn't look anything like a Z3.”

Therefore you’ve got the best of both worlds. And it’s a real head turner

I can only add what a fantastic job you have done inside and out and admire the work you have done to achieve what you have but not for me. It would have to be something I would want to do myself.
My vote was "No".

The reason is that I know what a nightmare my car would be for somebody else to own. If you know how to change the sidelight bulb on my car, it's a two minute job with the correct screwdriver. Not so easy without the know how and the screwdriver (which isn't in the car).

A minor problem for me could be a major problem for someone else. For instance, I've have a minor problem with the stereo, and I've had to take off the centre console, which has exposed the spaghetti wiring underneath. It's not that daunting for me, but a garage would either turn away, or charge a day's labour. A DIYer probably wouldn't know where to start, and probably would never finish.

My alternator failed in France, and the garage I went to said there was no way they were touching it as there were no manuals if anything went wrong. The irony is that an alternator change is much easier on my car than a standard Z3, because it has better access. Luckily, they let me do the job in their garage.

Your car may be completely different, and be very easy to sort if problems arise.

Well, the question is the problem. It's like a dentist saying , ' I need to take your tooth out, is that ok? Yes or no, whether I use anaesthetic or not?'
The price would determine the answer for anyone unless money didn't matter. In which case they'd probably want the real thing!
Also, '..drives like a Z3.., but doesn't look like a Z3.' Well, the best thing about a Z3 is the body shape, it's a beautiful looking roadster.
That's an excellent, better finished than most,Ferrari replica. So, cost is the problem, can't get away from that.

Yes, I love it but as I have never paid more than £7,000.00 for a car it is pricey for me. However as it is a case of disregarding the price can you bring it around tomorrow. ;)

OK, but these are never going to be owned by someone who doesn't know one end of a screwdriver from the other, surely?
I couldn't change a bulb in my 2024 Audi (cos they don't really have 'bulbs' anymore) but I can in the Fauxrrari.
I definitely can't sort any problem with the stereo on my Audi (cos it doesn't have one) but can with this.

I have a full set of wiring diagrams and legends of everything that has been changed. Every single additional cable is labelled in the car. In fact the electrics are far easier to interpret than they were before, due to the work that has been done.

So I don't think it would be any more of a nightmare to own than any other Z3 TBH.
In fact in many ways it is easier. Wheels come off with a rubber hammer. The interior has around 10 philips screws and a load of velcro. All can be completely dismantled in half an hour. No hidden fixings and clips to break! Five screws hold the entire dashboard on. ;)

Except the question is “would you want to OWN this car” not “would you want to BUY it”

So yes, I’d love to own it. In the same way that I’d love to own an E Type, knowing full well that I can never afford either…

And as for the maintenance issues raised by Pingu - If in my fantasy land I was rich enough to afford the car then I would also be rich enough to pay people to sort them😃

Just my opinion about owning my car.

I wouldn't want to own my car if it were made by someone else, just as I wouldn't want to own yours.

It's a lovely car. I'd want to look at it. I might even want to drive it. But I wouldn't want to own it.

Your car is the best of both worlds. It has Italian looks and German engineering. I just don't fancy the hassle of the unknown when things go wrong.
